What Others are Saying

He keeps it lighthearted, which you need in a game that has so many ups and downs in a season. But he honestly, really knows players and knows the game of baseball. And you can’t fool him. He sees through all of the bull. He knows what winning players look like and what they don’t.

Christian Yelich - MVP Outfielder, Milwaukee Brewers

As much as anything, there’s a toughness to Murph that never goes away. He instills that in players and he thinks about the game differently, so it’s a unique voice... He makes things fun and he communicates in a way – especially with players – that is just really unique.

Craig Counsell - Manager, Chicago Cubs

The passion I get from Murph is that he truly wants to get to know the players and make him the best version of himself. Does he have a different way of doing it? Yeah, sure, but it works.

Wade Miley - All-Star Pitcher, Milwaukee Brewers

The wisdom he’s imparted on our staff is something to behold... I don’t think I even viewed myself as a coach [but] Murph inspired me that I could. He’s kind of the straw that stirs our drink. He’s a jokester 95 percent of the time... But when he wants to get serious, his words mean something...

Walker McKinven - Run Prevention Coach, Milwaukee Brewers

Knowing Murph for as long as I have, baseball is about people, and he can gravitate to everybody. He’s definitely ready for this opportunity and he’s going to be great at it.

Dustin Pedroia - Retired MVP 2B, 14-yr Boston Red Sox HOF

There's a special place in my heart for [Murph] and for what he's done for me in my life... If I were a free agent in the big leagues I'd be fighting anybody I could to go play for him. He means the world to me, and is a tremendous human and leader...

Willie Bloomquist - Head Coach, Arizona State, 14-yr MLB

I came in confident but not confident enough, and didn’t know what type of player I was or what direction I was going in. [Murph] and his staff pointed me in the right direction and helped me tremendously...

Andre Ethier - Retired All-Star OF, 12-yr Los Angeles Dodger

Other than my Mom and Dad, who got me going, Murph was more responsible for me becoming a baseball player than anyone else. He made me understand what mental toughness really is, and that I could become a player even though I wasn't the most talented guy around.

Craig Counsell - 2x WS Champ, 16-yr MLB, Notre Dame Alum

I absolutely believe [Murphy] can be a big-league manager. He has this ability to relate to players, get them pulling in the right direction. He’s as good a man as I’ve seen in this game.

Jason Lane (from 2014) - 3B Coach, Milwaukee Brewers

Pat Murphy deserves to manage a major league team somewhere, someday.

Peter Gammons (from 2014) - HOF Journalist
